Mormon-Masonic Clang

Detractors of the church have often raised the point of “clanging” words in an attempt to disprove the Book of Mormon or the Book of Moses.

A “clang” word is a word that sounds like another word, that may or may not have an associated meaning. The argument is that liars in an attempt to create use similar sounding words, which is done out of sloppiness or an attempt to confuse. If you look-up “Clanging” it will be found in the psychological disorder sections of reference material (regarding people who associate words that have simular sounds but are not related).

One of the foremost claims of clanging is “Master Mahan” [1] being a clang of “Master Mason.” This idea causes a lot of discontentment with some, not being able to quite put their minds around the whole situation.

An etymology study of the word Mahan could be an interesting and even fun exercise, clanging words together to imply associations like "Mormon," “Mahan,” “Mason,” “Mayhem,” “Man,” ”Ham,” OK, even “Sam I am.”

So, I pose this question; does anyone really believe that Joseph Smith thought, in his mind, that the Book of Moses was talking about Masonry when it mentioned Master Mahan?

For the non-believers, if Joseph Smith meant Mahan as an association clang, why would he associate their own fraternity with the enemy of the church?

The Book of Mormon and the Book of Moses clearly spell-out that “Mahan” is associated with the “Secret Combinations.” And what this meant.

Did Joseph and the early brethren think they were entering the “Secret Combinations” when they entered the Masonic Lodge? Of course not.

It seem that the early brethren were clear on the meanings of Mahan and Mason. But, latter-day detractors appear to suffer from a “Clang Disorder.”

- Brethern & Sisters, adieu.

Alright...if it's not a clang what is it then? Your argument would make more sense if you could explain what Mahan means. I don't see it in the dictionary.

It doesn't make sense for Joseph Smith to be translating ancient manuscripts into words we can understand and throw in stuff that we'll never comprehend.

CORRECTED SPELLING (Thanks Joe):

Mystic Monkey:

We just don’t know the origin of the word “Mahan.” It is likely a title or a name. For example "Deseret" is a word that we haven’t know the origin of (I believe there has been some recent progress on this however).

There are tons of these (names or title) in not only the Book of Mormon, the Book of Abraham, The Book of Moses, and the Doctrine and Covenants, but the Bible it-self.

It appears that names and title are often translated with there phonetic equivalence, not the etymological explanation.

But, the text does provide us with what it means to be a “Master Mahan,” so really a translation is provided.

Master Mason /Master Mason
Just a Chance,Not a Clang?
lets compare the Masonic Texts and compare to Various scriptures and see if Master Mahan/Mason are one and the same. Moses 5:25,29
"That these abominations were had from Cain; for he rejected the greater counsel which was had from God"
29" And Satan said unto Cain: Swear unto me by thy throat, and if thou tell it thou shalt die; and swear thy brethren by their heads, and by the living God, that they tell it not; for if they tell it, they shall surely die"
Notice that the Bindings and sealings are by their Throats and heads and in the Name of God.
30 And Satan sware unto Cain that he would do according to his acommands. And all these things were done in secret.
31 And Cain said: Truly I am Mahan, the master of this great secret, that I may murder and get gain. Wherefore Cain was called Master Mahan, and he gloried in his wickedness.
Notice that Satan swore unto Cain and that their works are done in Secret
23according to his desire. And thou shalt rule over him;
24 For from this time forth thou shalt be the father of his alies; thou shalt be called Perdition; for thou wast also before the world.
Notice that Cain is given Dominion over Satan and in the fall Adam surrendured his Dominion to Satan
Now lets look at the initation
rite of the Masons Link Below

captmorgansfreemasonrycontents.htm "Since he comes endowed with all these necessary qualifications, let him enter this worshipful lodge in the name of the Lord, and take heed on what he, enters.
29 And Satan said unto Cain: Swear unto me by thy throat, and if thou tell it thou shalt die; and swear thy brethren by their heads, and by the living God, that they tell it not; for if they tell it, they shall surely die.

Masonic Text
The candidate during the time is divested of all his apparel (shirt excepted) and furnished with a pair of drawers kept in the lodge for the use of candidates. The candidate is then blindfolded, his left foot bare, his right in a slipper, his left breast and arm naked, and a rope called a Cable-tow round his neck and left arm.
1.
2 Ne. 26: 22
22 And there are also secret acombinations, even as in times of old, according to the combinations of the devil, for he is the founder of all these things; yea, the founder of murder, and works of darkness; yea, and he leadeth them by the neck with a flaxen cord, until he bindeth them with his strong cords forever.

The Senior Deacon then says, "As this is a torture to your flesh, so may it ever be to your mind and conscience if ever you should attempt to reveal the secrets of Masonry
you are now placed in a proper position to take upon you the solemn oath or obligation of an Entered Apprentice Mason,
Now Notice How Vain And Devilish the Masonic Oath Evolves
"I, A. B., of my own free will and accord, in presence of Almighty God and this worshipful lodge of Free and Accepted Masons, dedicated to God, and held forth to the holy order of St. John, do hereby and hereon most solemnly and sincerely promise and swear that I will always hail, ever conceal and never reveal any part or parts,,,"
whatever; binding myself under no less penalty than to have my throat cut across, my tongue torn out by the roots, and my body buried in the rough sands of the sea at low water-mark, where the tide ebbs and flows twice in twenty-hours; so help me God, and keep me steadfast in the due performance of the same."
Before I go Further lets do a Little side note On LIGHT
John 1: 4-5, 7-9
4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.
5 And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.
9 That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.
Now Masonic Again
The Masons say they are of St John's Lodge "To whom do modern Masons dedicate their lodges?"

Ans. "To St. John the Baptist and St. John the Evangelist." (code for Gnostic/Luciferian)but have no Mention of Jesus Christ because Masons Belive Jesus Christ was an Imposter. Remember Lucifer(Light Bearer) is the Light of freemasonry as they deny Jesus as the Christ.
what do you most desire?"

Ans. "Light
First, Jubela—"O that my throat had been cut across, my tongue torn out, and my body buried in the rough sands of the sea, at low water mark, where the tide ebbs and flows twice in twenty-four hours, ere I had been accessory to the death of so good a man as our Grand Master, Hiram Abiff!"

The second, Jubelo—"O that my left breast had been torn open and my heart and vitals taken from thence and thrown over my left shoulder, carried into the valley of Jehosaphat, and there to become a prey to the wild beasts of the field and vultures of the air, ere I had conspired the death of so good a man as our Grand Master, Hiram Abiff!"

The third, Jubelum—"O that my body had been severed in two in the midst, and divided to the north and south, my bowels burnt to ashes in the center, and the ashes scattered by the four winds of heaven, that there might not the least track or remembrance remain among men, or Masons, of so vile and perjured a wretch as I am.."
preceeding degrees; all of which being answered in the affirmative, I was asked by what further rights I expected to obtain that benefit."

"Your answer?"

Ans. "By the benefit of a pass-word."

"What is that pass-word?"

Ans. "Tubal Cain."

and The Bee Hive(DESERET)
Right or WRONG Masonry Culture is Mormon Culture
Freemasonry & bees
The bee and the hive have long been symbols of industry and regeneration, wisdom and obedience, with a place in Egyption, Roman and Christian symbolism. The hive is often seen in Masonic illustrations of the 18th and 19th century and both Clovis and Napoleon adopted the bee as their symbol. Although "the bee was among the Egyptians the symbol of an obedient people, because, says Horapollo, 'of all insects, the bee alone had a king.'1, its use in Freemasonry was secondary to any number of other symbols based on the working tools of a stone mason.
[Beehive] "Looking at the regulated labor of these insects when congregated in their hive, it is not surprising that a beehive should have been deemed an appropriate emblem of systematized industry. Freemasonry has therefore adopted the beehive as a symbol of industry, a virtue taught in the instructions, which says that a Master Mason 'works that he may receive wages, the better to support himself and family, and contribute to the relief of a worthy, distressed brother, his widow and orphans...' The ark has already been shown to have been an emblem common to Freemasonry and the Ancient Mysteries, as a symbol of regeneration - of the second birth from death to life. Now, in the Mysteries, a hive was a type of the ark. 'Hence,' says Faber (Origin of Pagan Idolatry, volume ii, page 133), 'both the diluvian priestess and the regenerated souls were called bees; hence, bees were feigned to be produced from the carcass of a cow, which also symbolized the ark; and hence, as the great father was esteemed an infernal god, honey was much used both in funeral rites and in the Mysteries. This extract is from the article on the bee in Evans' Animal Symbolism in Ecclesiastical Architecture."2.

Utah is the BeeHive State
Mormon Little girls are 'Beehives"
(are women Hornet's Nest?)
And oh yes "Deseret"
1.
Ether 2: 3
3 And they did also carry with them deseret, which, by interpretation, is a honey bee; and thus they did carry with them swarms of bees,
"I am convinced of the appropriateness of the beehive to the Third Degree of Freemasonry. I think that the material considered above is compelling enough to come to that conclusion. As with many masonic emblems and symbols, it's full impact is not necessarily immediate. Nor should it be. But if a Mason thinks about and explores the various connections presented above while keeping in mind the actual Third Degree he experienced, he will sup the nectar of the gods."
